Warning personal, poorly written, and likely boring,.

2 Months ago I set out an aggressive training plan. I have already failed on almost every aspect of it. Time to take accountability to myself for not sticking to it. My plans for individual fighting were basically worthless than the storage space they take up on server somewhere. I have not been doing axe training. I dumped my upper body routine within the second week. I have been teaching grappling but not sparring it. I have barely watched any tape of high level grapplers outside the sport. As a coach I have done slightly better. I planned to talk to my fighter to get to know them. That has not happened. However I have run two team practices with a focus on team-work. Less than I wanted, but it’s the only thing of any positive note.

Despite all this I’m ok with where I’m at. I’ve fallen off my goals but I’ve caught it early. I can refocus. It’s time to do that. It’s also time to look at my plan and adjust it. Obviously this didn’t work for me. So now to find something that does.

I have not been idle over the past 2 months and that’s a large part of why I’m still positive despite missing every single metric I wanted to hit. I’ve been doing a minimum of 2 knight fits a week. I’ve not had a day without some form of workout since mid-april(which I may need to cut back on to let my body rest more) and I’ve started a the basic 5X5 strong lifts program again. I’ve not missed a day or a set yet and that feels good. To add that I’ve been sparring weapons more, which likely won’t help my melee performance but should I feel the need to try for a singles slot, will be crucial. I’m currently on the fence about that so we’ll see if that continues. Regardless it has been improving my coaching and the students I train, which is a net positive

The thing I’m most excited about is finding new striking drills that I find fun and keep me engaged. I’ve been really enjoying playing with my balance on a bosu ball and have begun to do shadow striking with axe, longsword, and sword and board while maintain balance in various ways. I’ve also begun doing Schifino work-outs again. Replaced planks with wall sits, because of how often we get stuck squatting against the rail. I’ve also begun rehabbing various injuries following whatever bro-science guides I can find on the internet, plus visiting a chiropractor. I will likely be seeing a sports doctor or physical therapist once I finish my treatment.

This month will likely remains scatter as I try to figure out my schedule amongst the craziness that is my life, while also re-assessing goals. The biggest change is that I will add axe and longsword pell work back in though probably only every other day, instead of every day. I don’t know how I will be able to get my grappling training in, but that will be a huge focus for the month of june. I’m going to let my strength program go and trust the pre-built basics one. I will likely contact a personal trainer after this program has run it’s course.

As for coaching…Season starts in 2 weeks. Likely I will figure out what I need to work on then. So for now, time to just refocus and reapply. 12 months till Ukraine.
