Another week, another way too long written summary of shit that happened. First up 

Mistakes from June 7th, 2023

Or things I fucked up. 

-I miss named the Santa Barbara Soldados the Ventura Solados, so uh, I can’t spell or geography. 

-I got the results wrong from Longsword at the Cincinnati Siege Tournament. Chris Sanner got silver and Michael Sloma got Bronze gold. *EDIT* GOD DAMN IT I can’t even get it right in the corrections. Some one just kill me.

-On that note I called the tournament the Harambe Tournament not the Siege. And then corrected the name of the hosts from the Barbarians to the Siege cause I can’t read. 

-I missed a number of events so check the upcoming events list. Newly added events will be in bold as well in a separate section

-The Omaha event pro fight contact is not Jerimiah Johnson. There is a Hellhounds facebook page to use instead.

-Rookie Rumble is August 5th  

Results from June 7th –  June 13th, 2023

1st Annual Colorado Classic

Colorado Wardens hosted their first event which had melees and singles event at a renfaire. Fighters from the Wyverns and the Rust Knights attended, but there were not quite enough for 3 teams so the Rust Knights split between Wardens and the Wyverns. Wyverns took the day. They also tried a new format of 3 way fights between teams of 2 i.e 2 v 2 v 2 which was a favorite.

Castle Tournament Knight Fight Card at Expo 17

Castle Tournaments, a newer smaller org that has begun running events over the past two years hosted a small Knight Fight card at a Martial Arts convention held in the Harrah’s resort and casino. Knight Fights, for those who don’t know, are similar to ProFights. A singles match with all melee techniques allowed. Unlike Profights it’s judged on 10 point must system similar to MMA and usually consists of 5 rounds of 1, 1.5, or 2 minute rounds depending on what level of fight.  Fighters came from all over the North East to participate in this card. Eric Hiller took a decision win over Ryan Howard and Joseph Damiono also claimed a victory via decision. Sam McQueen(previously known as Sam Awry) lost to Richard Jackman by decision to continue the trend. Mike Guilani vs Drew Shipley did not break it with Mike “Jewels” Guilani taking a decision win. Raul Felix however provided one TKO via broken armor in the first round in his victory over Andrew Sumaya. Videos should be released soon. 

Other Notable Events

The Knights hall hosted a series of singles fights followed by a training camp. 

Detroit Fight Club ran a demo at a local ren faire.

MCU ran an online Secretary Seminar

Cincinnati Barbarians launched a new livestream/podcast/webseries called AxingQuestions. Their first guest was Sean Fabian from Kynaz. 

*New* Upcoming Tournaments/Events

I’m gonna move the running list of events to the bottom of this…whatever the fuck it is, so it will be easy to reference and won’t get in the way of the “NEWS.” In this section I’m only going to highlight events that I have not put in the event list whether they are newly announced or I just failed to put them in for whatever reason. 

The Den of Werewolves(Antre de Bisclavret) from Vegas is hosting a singles event June 18th. Details here.

The Los Angeles Golden Knights are hosting a Pro Fight event on July 15th  that looks to be the beginning of a new recurring thing. Called the Golden Ring you can find out more at this link.

The Knights hHll is hosting two nights of singles the weekend of July 7th which will be filmed and become part of a documentary. I believe Jaye Brooks is the contact point for this if you are interested. 

The Cincinnati Barbarians are looking to remain active as they take on the role of a major attraction at the Ohio Renfaire this fall every weekend in September and October. They are currently trying to get interested team names so if you’re team is thinking they might want to attend click the link above and fill out the form. 

MCU is hosting its next seminar June 21st at 10:00 PM EST. It will be another Marshall training and you can find details on their facebook page. 

In what might be another revolutionary change in the sport there is a group that appears to be hosting youth fighting in soft kit. I don’t really know much about it yet but hopefully that will change soon. In the meantime we know there is an event July 15th in Battle Ground, WA.

Kynaz is hosting their World’s End Buhurt Bash on June 24th in Roseville MI. for the second year in a row and is looking to make this an annual tradition. This is a low stakes event not officially part of any league with a chance to mix teams and do fun fights. Reach out to anyone on Kynaz to know more. 

ACW Nationals will be October 7th and 8th in Perryville MD. It will have melees and singles all competing for national titles. Day 1 will be mostly singles and a bit of womens 3v3 and mens 5v5.  Day two will be all mens melee and should have 10v10’s 

And while I probably won’t keep posting these if they stay a weekly stream I do want to call out that Cincinnati Barbarians are hosting their Axing Questions show again, this time with the one and only Larry from PK. The topic will be Authenticity which is always a good one for stirring up trouble. 

NEWS

Or in some cases olds! Just gonna list the things I’ve learned in the past week that seemed relevant. At some point this will probably be all drama cause I’m the biggest gossip. But for now it’s just normal stuff like:

The Death Dealers have broken up! I mean… I guess that’s kinda drama. But I’m not posting the reasons or going into that. And it seems notable when teams that have been around for more than a year and competed in a few major tournaments disappear, so we’re keeping it.

Buhurt International has a new website. It’s a really complicated and hard to remember address. https://www.buhurtinternational.com/  For real the site looks amazing. Go check it out.

Brett Skinner of Optimum Armes is not taking orders for steel equipment via his website. Reach out to him personally if you want something.

Mickey Gallus, one of the top names in the singles scene(and the sport as a whole) has received some training injuries and will be taking a break from pro fights for a few months. Good luck and heal fast Mickey.

AMCF Board Applications have closed, but applications for VP and Co-head marshall are still open. Candidates will be announced at the end of the week and voting will begin shortly after. The AMCF is currently considering doing a town hall style live stream with the candidates answering questions as a way for the community to have a better idea of who they are putting in charge.

This Dope shirt dropped and can be gotten from DoodleKnight etsy. Megan Jones is the artist I believe, but I didn’t write it down nor remember where I saw it so uh….whoops. Did I mention I’m not actually a journalist? It should be obvious at this point.

Speaking of fighters whose names I’ve lost, This youtube video from IronDuke shows a neat trick for putting a voice recorder in your helmet in case you want get audio of what you sound like getting the shit kicked out of you. It’s also possibly a start down the path of headsets in helmets which has been discussed for years but never implemented as far as I know. 

Next is another youtube shout out. Timothy Hines has been compiling high resolution footage of some big events like carnage and BLWC as well as great seminars. He also edits them into very consumable shorter videos with the breaks removed and only fights of similar theme included in each video. Check him out.

Lastly, the Knight Finder resource, a website that shows where teams in North America are located on a map and provides contact info, is in the process of being updated. Check it out and make sure your team is up to date and covered.
